Shipping companies will be affected by the EU Decarbonization Regulations

Starting from January 1, 2024, the shipping industry has been officially included in the EU Carbon Emission Trading System (ETS), which has a profound impact on the entire shipping industry. As long as a vessel with a tonnage of over 5000 tons stops or navigates within Europe, the operating entity of the vessel is required to pay a carbon tax on the emissions it generates. The amount of tax paid mainly depends on the vessel's emissions, voyage segment, and transportation unit price. At the same time, the EU's emission reduction policy imposes fines on ships whose fuel values exceed the limit. These two policies impose fines exceeding $1 billion.
